Complete with a rummage sale full of donated clothes gathered by Student Activities, free popcorn, 3 bands, a DJ, tarot card/palm readings, and free pizza provided by Sodexo, everyone had a great time, and raised some money for a great cause! All proceeds went to benefit Haiti through the NEIU Foundation, and leftover clothes were donated directly.

This event was organized in less than a week! Imagine what could be done with a good month of planning!

Kind folks enjoying the rummage sale

Kiddy Korral Jug Band clowned around and showed us a good ol’ time with blues and ragtime classics, complete with gutbucket/washtub bass, spoons, suitcass percussion, concertina, and spastic vocals—-stay tuned for their live set to be published on our Live From WZRD podcast, and in-studio pictures to come.

Kelsey Montanez pulled at our heartstrings with her powerful voice.

Tarot Card Readings with 100% proceeds going towards Haiti relief.

Flow Theory showed their chops with their brand of jammin’ complete w/
funky bass and soulful vocals.

DJ Demchuk was kind enough to help warm the place up with his tight, eclectic set before the bands came up and in between sets—- [Check Demchuk out (ex-WZRD program director and wizard!) when he opens for Mos Def and MF DOOM at Congress on February 13th.]

Funds raised, and attendance were greater than we could of hoped with a week of organizing/promoting! Even The Devil made an appearance.
Thanks to Demchuk, Kelsey Montanez, Flow Theory, Kiddy Korral Jugband, NEIU, Student Activities, all who attended, and everone who helped make this event work! Watch out for more WZRD-headed benefits and events, in the coming months!
